Each year The Math League sponsors contests for grades 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, Algebra Course 1, and High School.

By popular demand, Math League's Math Contests are now available for homeschoolers. These are the same contests used by schools, in a non-competitive format for the home. Whether you give the contest with a time limit, or let homeschoolers work them at their own pace, you choose which is best for your homeschooler. Every contest has questions from different areas of mathematics. The goal is to encourage student interest and confidence in mathematics through solving worthwhile problems. Many students first develop an interest in mathematics through problem-solving activities such as these contests. You may also wish to consider Math League's Contest Problem Books and Educational Math Software for other great homeschool math resources, and our free Internet Help Facility for Grades 4-8 provides fast on-line math help, complete with explanations and examples.

Benefits of Math League Contests include:

  • Build important critical thinking skills.
  • Challenge your children and young adults with the same fun, interesting math contests used in schools.
  • Choose the best fit for your homeschool setting: take the contests in the contest time limit, or work through the problems at your homeschooler's pace.
  • Complete answer keys and solution sheets explain various problem-solving approaches.

Comments from Teachers and Students

Bob Smith: I think your contests are an excellent source of questions and encourage problem solving among all participants.
Anne Blacksten: You folks are really doing a terrific job. This last contest was particularly good. It was a possible "6" for several of our students although none of them did better than a "5". While very challenging, almost everyone who came got at least one.
Mary Rulla: You can tell which problems these kids' teacher is weak on, can't you? Oh well, the problems are fun anyway.
Beverely Johnson: Thanks to your web sites and contests, you got my little girl enthusiastic about math once again. I wish you great success in the future. Thanks once again!!
Matt Costill: This was the best thing to happen to me in math ever since I was the only person to get a perfect score on a test I took in 7th grade to see if I was qualified to take Algebra I (the most advanced math offered to 8th grade). I can't wait until December to take the next Math League test. I hope to get 5 or 6 right on this test.
